Our Story

We’ve been creating wood boxes, lugs and crates from our workshop in Northern Michigan since 1995. That was the year Ed and Lisa Blackburn launched Backwoods Specialties. In 2017 we were thrilled to become the new owners and carry on the tradition

Over the years, there have been some interesting clients and unusual requests.  We’ve made props for a popular TV crime show, and sent boxes to a famous singer, a rock band, and wineries from California to the East Coast.  We’ve sent things all over the country from our little hub in Traverse City, Michigan.

It’s been fun to see how people use the boxes, from creative center pieces and attendants’ gifts, to exhibit displays and more. A popular Michigan resort hotel uses our confection box to package gifts in its VIP rooms. The possibilities are really endless.
